Artist's statement for Arts and Old Lace challenge quilt:
Name of the quilt: Bobbin Lace
The lace-maker's pillow with its array of bobbins and multi-colored beads is an art form in itself. Sometimes called "pillow lace", for the pillow used to hold the pins, or "bone lace", because fish bones were used by lace makers who couldn't afford pins. All bobbin lace is the result of two simple movements - the "cross" and the "twist".
I included the small lady spider because, of course, she is the original lace-maker.
Theses ladies served as my inspiration for my quilt.
