Pearl stayed home

Pearl is the only one at home right now. I entered her in the Life's a Beach contest at Cloth, Paper, Scissors - but she was not selected. Now the good news! She has found a home with a new art friend.

Dolls have been delivered

We delivered the dolls to Theresa at Stifel and Capra http://stifelandcapra.blogspot.com/ today. My goal was to get them there before the April 3rd First Friday celebration. This will be the first First Friday at the new store! The transport and hanging went well - everyone got there in one piece. I made tags for the dolls and gave everyone a name this morning. Some of the names are: Lula, Mazie, Olive, Max and Zelda. I'm so glad that project is done for now. I have one spare doll at home and a huge mess to clean up.

Kristin: How long have you been creating mixed media art?

Linda: I've been creating mixed media art for about 2 years. I've been making dolls using alphabet blocks for bodies and antique doll parts for about 4 months. Being German, I love the story of the old, throw away doll parts being dug out of the ground from demolished doll factories in Germany. I love the rust, dirt and imperfections found on the doll parts. I find it amazing that dirt from Germany is still inside the heads, arms, and legs.

Kristin: What inspires you when creating a specific doll?

Linda: Seeing the personality of each doll emerge intrigues me. A bit of lace and some ribbon usually start the creative process. I start with clothes and pick the perfect head, arms and legs. Sometimes the head inspires me to design the perfect outfit. I have also been inspired by a great set of legs with bows painted on them and fashioned the doll around the legs. Sometimes I have a person in mind when I make a doll. I used my husband's broken watch to make him a doll. I have a neighbor who is a breast cancer survivor and I made a doll that has a pink ribbon pin with her in mind. Most of the time it's just a surprise to see the doll emerge from all the parts. Since the necks the the dolls are broken, I make them necks with polymer clay. By the time the doll is complete I have spent quite few hours with each doll. The best part of creating art for me is having people tell me why they connect with a certain doll. When someone picks up a doll and says, "Mine, this one is going home with me." it's a wonderful feeling sharing my art and myself with others.

New Dolls

I'm working on a display for about 15 of my dolls for my friend's shop. I'm trying to get everything done by Saturday. Here are a few new dolls.

Morgan's Fridge Art

I'm happy to say that my granddaughter Morgan is busy making art for her mom to put on the fridge!

Busy weekends

Busy family weekends with birthday parties for my son-in-law and grandson, gardening with my grandson and scooter riding for my husband and grandson! It's been chilly but everyone wants it to be warm and wants to spend time out doors.

I also counted 12 robins in the garden!

Collage Cards

I made my husband a Valentine's Day card and birthday card this year.

The birthday card is my interpretation of a dream he told me about. He was walking down the street of his childhood neighborhood. The street was flooded and two crocodiles were coming towards him. Just then an otter showed up and looked at him and said Otter, Otter, Otter. From those words my husband knew that the otter needed help so he followed him to a house where the otter's friend (a kitten) was trapped and needed help. Then he woke up and wondered all day what the dream meant.

Here are two more cards I made for my husband one is a Valentine's Day card and one is an anniversary card.

Mosaic table

This is a detail from my first mosaic table top. It was fun to make. I put some resin on top of the tiles to try and even them out. It's kind of a messy job - I learned a lot from this project.

Winter or Spring?

The week started off with a snow storm and a day off from work! Saturday it was 75 degrees and we cooked hamburgers out on the grill. A sure sign of spring crocus and the lenten rose are starting to bloom. Yes, the first hamburgers of the season were amazing.
