Father's Day - Fish Painting SURPRISE

We traveled to Fredericksburg for Father’s day. Yummy bar-b-que sandwiches, coleslaw, corn on-the-cob and strawberry shortcake were enjoyed by all. It was also my step-daughter’s birthday celebration. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw her present. I said, “Hey, I know that painting”. It was the centerpiece of Johnna’s show at the Griffin bookshop and coffee bar http://www.thegriffinbookshopcoffeebar.com/ (a fabulous place to visit if you are ever in Fredericksburg, Virginia).

Johnna is in the mixed media club and the altered book class that I’m taking. Way to go Johnna, I want you to know that the painting was a total surprise for my step-daughter and will be loved and cherished in our family! By the way my husband is totally jealous and wants me to find out what other paintings you have for sale.

Art weekend in Fredericksburg

The mixed media club and Altered Book class met at Libertytown in Fredericksburg, VA http://www.libertytownarts.com/ this month. Check out their website. It's a great place for local artists.

The mixed media club discussed some upcoming local call for artists and the demo this month was on how to use a wacom tablet http://wacom.com/intuos/ I got lots of ideas on how I can remake my collage cards using the wacom tablet.

In the Altered book meeting we learned about making pockets and using crumpled magazine paper and alcohol inks to make background papers. We also exchanged books. The book I’m working in has the theme Excavation of the Muse or Soul. We have about a month to do two spreads one using pockets and one using the crumpled paper. I'll post photos when the spreads are done.

Buttons

There was an interesting booth at the Quilt show, they had vintage table cloths from the 40's and 50's, channile material, vintage pin cusions and really beautifully displayed buttons all sorted by color!

Quilt show at Dulles Expo Center

I was working about 10 minutes away from the Dulles Expo Center today. This weekend there is a quilt show there and I haven't been to a quilt show in many, many years. I stopped by to check everything out. I can definately say that quilting is still very popular. Here are a few fish quilts from the show.

Flowers, a mop and a hot dog

The flowers are in my front yard. The weird mop picture was taken at the Bike Club cookout. The hot dog is eating a hot dog at the cookout. A good time was had by all.
